A NIGHT AT POMPEII”
PATHS OF LIGHT AND SOUND IN THE ANCIENT CITY
Opening on the 8th July and running Tuesdays and Thursdays until the 24th August
from 21:00 to 23:00

Pompeii, a city alive in the middle of the night. A unique experience and a chance to live the atmosphere and charm of everyday life in the ancient city among light and sound.
Beginning on Saturday 8th July, the paths of lights and sounds - “A night at Pompeii” - returns to one of the most monumental parts of the site - the Forum, heart of the political, religious and economic life of the ancient city, as part of the “Campania by night: Archaeology under the stars” initiative (nighttime visits to the archaeological areas under the care of the Campania region/Scabec) and thanks to the renovated Enel lighting system.
The splendour and beauty of the illuminated temples and buildings, along with the ability to relive the moments of daily life in a unique place through voices, noises and sounds, will accompany the visitor through an emotional itinerary from the ancient Porta Marina into the midst of history. Passing the Suburban Baths, a little beyond the city walls and the access from the sea road, the cries and bustle of artisans and workers from the workshops of Via Marina (The workshop and shop of Furius), the sounds and chatter of the landlady in the House of Triptolemus, the sounds and voices which both accompany and recount the ludi (games) in honour of Apollo in the Sanctuary of the same name, and the rhythm of the drums and music of the sacred ceremonies of the cult of the Supreme Jupiter, to the Capitolium (or Temple of Jupiter), the hustle and bustle of the Market (the Macellum) and the work of the fullers (launderers) in the Building of Eumachia mark the stops along this voyage into the past. The itinerary concludes at the Basilica, the ancient Palace of Justice, where the walls of the building transform, thanks to a three-dimensional projection, into Pompeian houses and gardens, brimming with life and the colours which frescoes, plants and flowers offered for the eyes and enjoyment of Pompeians.
The visits will take place starting from the 8th July until the 24th August on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the following dates - the 13th, 18th, 20th, 25th and 27th July; the 1st, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 17th, 22nd and 24th August, beginning at 21:00 in 6 rounds of visits for groups of 50/60 people. “Campania by night: Archaeology under the stars” is an initiative financed by the Campania Region, and promoted and organised by the Campanian Scabec Society of Culture and Heritage.
The price of the visit, which will last for an hour and a quarter, is €11 (with discounts available for Campania>Artecard holders, and complimentary passes according to ministerial regulations). Reservation is advised and can be conducted via the following telephone numbers: 800 600 601 (from a landline) and 081 19737256 (from a mobile and/or overseas).
