SUMMARY:Pompeii Theatrum Mundi
DESCRIPTION:The first festival of ancient drama ‘POMPEII THEATRUM MUNDI’ will be held from 22nd June to 23rdJuly 2017 at the Teatro Grande in Pompeii including plays from ‘Oresteia’ to ‘Prometheia’\, from ‘Antigone’ to ‘The Bacchae’ and ‘Phaedra’\, directed by De Fusco\, Luconi\, De Rosa\, Cerciello. It is a four-year project overseen by the Teatro Stabile of Naples/National Theatre and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.\nConceived for the Teatro Grande in Pompeii\, the four-year project ‘POMPEII THEATRUM MUNDI’ is the result of the collaboration between the Teatro Stabile of Naples/National Theatre and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. It comes after the reopening to the public of the Teatro Grande\, and is part of a broader programme promoting the site.\nFrom 22nd June to 23rd July\, the stage of Pompeii’s theatre (built in the 2nd century BC) will be the setting of a series of ancient dramas. There will be a structured schedule\, with four great dramas re-enacted before a vast audience in the enthralling atmosphere of Pompeii’s excavation sites. \n\nScheduled plays: \n22nd – 25th June\n‘Oresteia’ (‘Agamemnon’ and ‘The Libation Bearers’/’The Eumenide’)\nThe series will open on 22nd June with Aeschylus’ ‘Oresteia’ (‘Agamemnon’ and ‘The Libation Bearers’/’The Eumenide’)\, staged by Luca De Fusco and produced by the Teatro Stabile of Naples. ‘Oresteia’ is the only ancient Greek theatre trilogy to survive in its entirety. It will be on stage for four days (from 22nd to 25th June) on alternate days in two parts\, ‘Agamemnon’ and ‘The Libation Bearers’/’The Eumenides’. After a two-year tour in Italy and abroad\, the play now arrives at the Teatro Grande in Pompeii\, where it was originally destined to premiere. \n30th June – 6th July\n‘Diptych’ directed by Massimo Luconi\n‘Prometheia’ by Aeschylus (from 30th June to 2nd July)\nThis is the national debut starring the actor Luca Lazzareschi in the role of the great and mysterious mythological character. The play is produced by the Teatro Stabile of Naples and by the Campania dei Festival Foundation – Napoli Teatro Festival Italia.\n‘Antigone. An African story’ by Jean Anouilh (5th and 6th July)\nPerformed in the French and Wolof language with Italian surtitles\, this production originates from a three-year workshop run by the director Massimo Luconi in Senegal with young Senegalese actors.\nA group of six actors from Senegal will be joined by some Senegalese chorists residing in Naples\, Italy. The play is produced by Terzo piano theatre in cooperation with the French Cultural Institute Saint Louis and the Teatro Metastasio of Prato. \n14Th – 16th July\n‘The Bacchae’ by Euripides\nThe fourth scheduled event will be the national debut of ‘The Bacchae’ by Euripides\, staged by the director Andrea De Rosa. “’God is dead’\, wrote Nietzsche over a century ago and despite the absurd religious wars still looming on the horizon of recent history\, that verdict seems final and irrevocable. But the sacred? The mysterious? Have they also disappeared from our lives forever?” The director continues\, “Theatre is still the place where a god can come to life? Where we can listen to their voice and\, above all\, ask them questions?” The play is produced by the Teatro Stabile of Naples and the Teatro Stabile of Turin. \n22Nd – 23rd July\n‘Phaedra’ by Seneca\nThe series will close on 22nd and 23rd July with ‘Phaedra’ by Seneca\, directed by Carlo Cerciello and translated by Maurizio Bettini. The show is produced by INDA (National Institute of Ancient Drama)\, an Onlus Foundation and will arrive in the unique and fascinating Teatro Grande in Pompeii after having premiered at the Teatro Greco in Syracuse\, performed at the Teatro Antico in Segesta\, in Taormina and in the Roman theatre in Ostia Antica.

SUMMARY:RESTORING POMPEII
DESCRIPTION:International Study Days\n6 th April 2017 Pompeii – Auditorium\n7 th April 2017 Naples – Partenope Convention centre\nThe Great Pompeii Project is the main focus of the two International Study Days ‘Restoring Pompeii’\, organised by the Superintendency of Pompeii and the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples ‘Federico II’. The two Study Days will enable an open discussion on the outcome of the four-year project to restore many houses and re-open large areas of the site\, which in some cases have been off- limits for quite some time. There will be a detailed outline of the restoration works\, from the post-war period to the current day describing operations involving all the ‘Regiones’\, excavation sites\, and the most important restorations of the ‘domus’ in putting safety measures in place for those areas now open to visitors. There will be discussions on new enhancement strategies\, including the project ‘Pompeii for All’ aimed at removing architectural barriers in the archaeological areas\, the reasons and benefits of information gathering plans\, the new experiences in designing\, and the launch of planned and structural\nmaintenance services to ensure Pompeii’s conservation in the future.\nThe conferences will take place on Thursday 6 th April at the Auditorium in Pompeii and on Friday 7 th April at the Partenope Convention centre in Naples. The inauguration of the exhibition ìPicasso and Naples: Parade’ at the Museum of Capodimonte will conclude the two Study Days. No prior registration is required to attend the conferences.

SUMMARY:Pistoletto in Pompeii
DESCRIPTION:  \n14 th MARCH NATIONAL LANDSCAPE DAY AT THE EXCAVATION SITES OF POMPEII-POMPEII’S RE-BIRTH. MICHELANGELO PISTOLETTO’S ‘THIRD PARADISE’ \nAgreat celebration and a flash-mob in the Palestra Grande of Pompeii helps bring a ‘Third Paradise’ to life with Michelangelo Pistoletto\, inspired by the re-birth that Pompeii is experiencing. \n\nPompeii’s re-birth can be seen through Pistoletto’s symbol and his ‘Third Paradise’. The symbol of the ‘Third Paradise’ is the reconfiguration of the mathematical infinity symbol. It is composed of three consecutive circles where the two opposite circles represent nature and artifice while the middle one is the conjunction of the two and represents the womb of re-birth. On 14 th March\, the symbol of the master generated a collective action which narrates the past\, present and future of Pompeii. It is the re-birth of the site which can now be seen by all.. The installation was created for National Landscape Day\, an initiative scheduled for 14 th March 2017 and launched by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism to celebrate the landscape\, its history\, as well as its importance for the identity of the country. It will be on display in the Palestra Grande until the end of July. Visitors to the site\, students\, and the staff of the Superintendency got involved for the great event of interactive realisation of this great undertaking that brings together the past\, present and future through the use of diverse symbolic materials. The artist met with the public and the press to speak about the meaning of his work and its continuous re- expression in different places and contexts. Also present were the General Director of the Superintendency of Pompeii Massimo Osanna\, Fortunato D’amico from the Cittadellarte-Pistoletto Foundation\, Paolo Mighetto the curator of the performance for the Superintendency of Pompeii\, and Gianluca De Marchi from URBAN VISION the main sponsor of the event. In 2003 Pistoletto wrote the ‘Third Paradise’ manifesto and designed its symbol\, represented by a reconfiguration of the mathematical infinity symbol. The large circles drawn were inspired by the theorem of Trinamics\, the dynamics of the number three. It was the combination of two units that gave rise to a third distinct\, new unit. Thus\, the 3 was a re-birth which took place as a result of a fortuitous\, or desired\, combination of two elements. In Pompeii the ‘Third Paradise’ is crafted and blended with all of those materials that have contributed to building it in the past and continue to transform it in the present and for the future. Thus in the circle of the past we find lapilli\, pumices\, tuff blocks\, ceramic waste\, residues of plaster casts like fossils of a lost civilisation\, but also construction materials such as the wheel of a water mill\, and archaeologists’ tools that were used to preserve the history of the site and humanity. Wi-Fi antennae\, ‘ConTe’ electronic bracelets\, and a computer symbolise the future and its technology. The central circle is the new life of the Site which keeps regenerating itself between the past and the future. Here nature reclaims its role through the plants\, herbs and flowers that once grew in Pompeii whose seeds have been found among the ashes by the archaeologists. A peace has been created that can only be found through trying to live in harmony with the environment. \nhttp://it.terzoparadiso.org \n http://www.cittadellarte.it/

SUMMARY:Einaudi
DESCRIPTION:The Teatro Grande will reopen on 23 rd July with an exceptional artist\, Ludovico Einaudi\, performing in\nPompeii for the first time. ‘Ludovico Einaudi elements’ is the title of the concert. Together with the Turin\ncomposer on piano\, there will be Federico Mecozzi on violin\, Redi Hasa playing cello\, Alberto Fabris on bass\nguitar and live electronics\, Riccardo Laganà on percussion and Francesco Arcuri on guitar.. \n  \nThe album ‘Elements’ was released on 16 th October 2015.It includes 12 pieces featuring various instruments\, the piano\, strings\, percussion\, guitar and electronics. Like Einaudi’s previous albums\, ‘Elements’ is a suite\, which means that each piece is firmly connected to the others. It has a rich and multi-layered sound\, and the different elements are combined in a fresh and natural way\, merging acoustic\, electrical and electronic sounds. The album was recorded over three months\, between March and June\, in the studio of Einaudi’s country house on the Langhe hills; “A unique experience\, accompanied by the pulsating rhythm of spring in its explosion.’ Discussing his latest work\, the composer said\, “If it weren’t music\, it would be a map of thoughts\, sometimes clear\, sometimes one on top of the other\, dots\, lines\, shapes\, fragments of an internal discourse that never stops. \n‘ Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketone.it or through authorised dealers. \nIn July\, for Pompeii’s summer season\, the Amphitheatre will also host the concerts of Elton John on 12 th July and David Gilmour on 7 th and 8 th July.
