This building falls into the category of the house-shop: the rooms which faced onto the street were used for trading, while the residential section centred around an open courtyard, with a masonry triclinium and a porticoed space, onto which the grandest rooms of the domus faced. These rooms were decorated in paintings of the Pompeian Fourth Style which, at the moment of the eruption, was undergoing restructuring works as part of a wider restoration, as evidenced by the amphorae full of lime which were found during the excavation. The building unit corresponding to number 1 of the block is considered part of the same complex, and is understood to have been a hospitium.
