The management plan is an operational planning and synoptic tool of the serial site no. 829 “Archeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata”.
The updated version of the Management Plan 2025-2030 is geared towards the objectives of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with indispensable strategic guidelines and criteria for monitoring its work.
The general approach of the plan is in line with the 2002 Budapest Declaration of the World Heritage Committee and the key principles of the governance model of the UNESCO site (known as the 5Cs: Credibility, Conservation, Community, Capacity and Communication.
Above all, the plan is designed to reinforce the social and political importance of the cultural heritage of Site 829 and its capacity to contribute to the creation of inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable towns, cities and territories.
The site is designed to be a place for the expression and interpretation of the present and the future of the local community. In order to achieve these objectives, the plan is divided into five spheres of action: conservation and safety, research and innovation, education and communication, accessibility and utilisation as specific strategic objectives and actions.
The Management Plan of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii has taken into account the Sustainability Plan. The sustainability measures that have been adopted concern both the activities for managing the sites and the activities carried out together with (and on behalf of) the local community. In the first case, it is a form of management based on the choice of sustainable technical and financial project solutions.
With regard to its relationship with the territory, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii seeks to be a reference point for local communities, schools and businesses through actions designed to ensure the transmission, dissemination and communication of knowledge and values of the site, taking on the mantle of a catalyst for best practices.
