The archaeological sites of Greater Pompeii (Grande Pompei) at Castellammare di Stabia directly linked by the Pompeii Artebus shuttle service starting from 4 August
A more direct link has been created in Castellammare di Stabia in order to encourage the numerous tourists staying in the city to visit the archaeological sites of Stabiae.
There are many visitors staying in hotels, pensions and B&Bs in Castellammare, often eager to find out more about the cultural sites of the city and to get to them more easily, who would benefit from a dedicated service.
This is why the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, in conjunction with the municipality (comune) of Castellammare di Stabia, has decided to set up transport links with the archaeological sites of Greater Pompeii - Grande Pompei - in the territory of Stabiae (Villa Arianna, Villa San Marco, Museo Archeologico di Stabia Libero D’Orsi), shifting – from 4 August – the Pompeii Artebus shuttle service, directly to Castellammare. The shuttles to the sites of Oplontis and Boscoreale will continue to set off from Pompei-Piazza Esedra.
The tourists who wish to visit the villas and archaeological museum of Stabiae from Pompeii can reach the city of Castellammare using the Circumvesuviana light railway (Naples - Sorrento line –Castellammare di Stabia stop) and from there travel by shuttle from the stop at Piazza Unità d'Italia (or Piazza Circumvesuviana opposite via Regina Margherita).
The shuttle leaves from Piazza Giovanni XXIII from 11.30 am onwards and follows an urban route with several stops within the city, eventually reaching Villa Arianna, Villa San Marco and the Museo Archeologico di Stabia Libero D’Orsi with the last shuttle setting off at 6.00 pm. This solution is designed to improve accessibility, facilitating more rapid links between the three sites of Stabiae.
“This more direct link to the archaeological sites of Stabiae, thanks to the Pompei Artebus shuttle, marks an important step for the territory of Castellammare di Stabia”, observes Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the Park Director. “It is not just a logistic solution, but a veritable cultural bridge that helps to promote the idea of a Greater Pompeii ("Grande Pompei"), a widespread archaeological park, enhancing the area of Stabiae which is so full of treasures. By encouraging tourists to explore the magnificent villas of Stabiae, we can distribute the flow of visitors and the economic benefits over a wider area. We are confident this initiative will make the visit an even more fulfilling and unforgettable experience”.
“We are enthusiastic about this new service which finally makes access to our extraordinary archaeological treasures and the Museo Libero d'Orsi simpler and more direct. It marks a practical step towards the enhancement of our cultural heritage, made possible thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. Together with Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the Park Director, and Maria Rispoli, director of the Museo di Stabia, Maria Rispoli, to whom I am extremely grateful, we are constructing a virtuous model to promote the territory and its reception facilities, responding in a practical fashion to the needs of the numerous visitors who choose Castellammare as a tourist destination", adds Luigi Vicinanza, Mayor of Castellammare di Stabia.
