GENERAL CONDITIONS AND REGULATIONS CONCERNING ACCESS TO THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF POMPEII
Article 1
The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is open to members of the public with tickets indicating the ticket-holder’s name. Visitors are required to adopt suitable codes of conduct, informing security staff of any cases of non-compliance or other problems.
Article 2
- In order to enter the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, visitors will be asked to show a ticket issued by the ticket office which categorically states the name of the ticket-holder and the day and time slot for entry.
- The ticket, which is personal and non-transferable, can be purchased:
- online, using the portal indicated on the website of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii;
- at the ticket offices of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, providing a valid identification document.
- For every entry, the Park staff are authorised to request an identification document to check that the name on the ticket and the person using the ticket match. If they fail to match, the visitors will not be allowed to enter and will not have the right to a refund for the ticket. The Park reserves the right to carry out random checks at any time during the visit.
- Non-transferable tickets are not refundable, except in the case of the extraordinary closure of the Park. No modifications may be made to the name on the ticket or the date of the visit.
Article 3
- Annex A to this document identifies the time slots and the maximum number of visitors that can enter at each time slot.
3.2. As a justified precaution, the Director General of the Park may make amendments or additions to Annex A on the basis of an assessment made in relation to the need to preserve cultural heritage, to ensure the safety requirements of visitors and staff, and to cater for the predicted numbers of visitors for the season and temporary circumstances linked to safety or the reduced or increased capacity to receive visitors.
Article 4
- Groups of visitors organised by accredited tour operators can enter with a single group ticket bearing the name of the tour operator.
- Annex B to this document indicates the minimum number of an organised group exercising the right pursuant to the previous article 4.1. As a justified precaution, the Director General of the Park may make amendments or additions to Annex B on the basis of an assessment made in relation to the need to safeguard, either directly or indirectly, the site or visitors in order to prevent or combat secondary ticketing, touting, bulk buying or other similar activities.
- Organised groups of over 35 people will not be admitted. In any case, for groups of over 15 people, the use of whisper and/or earphone systems is obligatory.

Article 8
Visitators are required:

- to observe the prescribed itineraries. It is forbidden to follow alternative routes that differ from those indicated using specific signs and dissuaders;
- to observe the rules for visiting special sites, where these are specifically displayed at the entrance;
- to recycle waste.
Article 9
By visiting the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, visitors hereby accept and acknowledge that the itineraries and routes within the site, coinciding almost entirely with the ancient city, have drops and variable heights as well as fairly significant irregularities and gaps. It is therefore up to the individual responsibility of the visitor to show due caution in order to avoid stumbling, sprains and other injuries. Damage to persons or things stemming from a lack of care and imprudent behaviour unsuited to the nature of an archaeological site exonerate the Archaeological Park from liability, with consequent exclusion of any claim for damages and compensation. Similarly, given the fragile nature of the site due to the antiquity of the structures, the administration is exonerated from any damage to persons or things caused by unforeseen circumstances (force majeure) and not stemming from culpable negligence.
- Without prejudice to the foregoing, in order to ensure that the visit to the archaeological site takes place with the maximum degree of safety, visitors are required to observe the following recommendations:
- Use comfortable footwear;
- Display due caution in the presence of stray dogs that have passed through or over the security fencing around the Archaeological Park. Keep away from the animals and show due care;
- The visit to the Archaeological Park requires significant physical effort: persons with mobility issues and cardiovascular problems are advised to display extreme prudence;
- During storms, do not seek shelter beneath trees or other plants;
- In addition to the provisions expressly set forth in these regulations, visitors are required to look at and respect the regulations contained in notices and guidelines, including those concerning safety, displayed at the entrance to the Park or published on the website or through other official channels of communication of the Park.
Article 10
Without prejudice to criminal liabilities and administrative sanctions and fines, visitors have civil liability to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii for any damage caused due to negligence, imprudence or non-compliance with obligations and bans set forth in these regulations. Tour leaders in charge of groups of visitors and school pupils are responsible for ensuring that individuals adhere to the regulations.
Article 11
The Archaeological Park of Pompeii hereby reserves the right to remove visitors who do not respect the obligations and bans set forth in these regulations, with specific reference to the following cases:
- The refusal of the visitor and/or the tour leader to verify their identity and display their ticket to the security staff who request it.
- Violence or threats to members of the security staff, other staff and visitors;
- Harassment of visitors or anyone in the Archaeological Park of Pompeii;
- Indecent behaviour.
Similarly, tour leaders and school groups may be temporarily forbidden from entering the Archaeological Park of Pompeii in the case or repeated transgressions of the regulations by themselves or individuals that make up part of the group of visitors or school group.
