ARCHAEOLOGISTS TALK ABOUT THE SITE:

RESEARCH INVESTIGATIONS AND EXCAVATION MISSIONS OF UNIVERSITIES IN POMPEII

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is participating the European Days of Archaeology 2023 will be held on 16^th, 17^th and 18^th June. This initiative created by the INRAP, National Institute of Preventative Archaeological Research in France (Institut national de recherches archeologiques preventives), is occurring across the country, is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture - Director General of Museums, with the aim of promoting the archaeological heritage and make known the work of archaeologists on sites.

On Friday 16^th June in Pompeii, from 9:30 to 13:00, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the research activities and excavations missions of some of the universities engaged in archaeological excavations, examining the building phases prior to the eruption of 79 CE. The public will have the opportunity to talk to the excavation teams about their work and their ongoing research.

Saturday 17^th June from 10:00, there is a programme dedicated to visitors at Villa San Marco and Stabiae/ Castellammare di Stabia, by the archaeologists of the Comitato Libero D’Orsi, while on Sunday 18^th June from 10:00 to 13:00, there will be a thematic visit to Villa Di Poppea a Oplontis/ Torre Annunziata, with the title ‘the medicine of Ancient Oplontis’ following the archiatrist Andromachus, doctor to Nero and the Julio-Claudian family. This is organised by the Oplontino Historical Group and the Archaeoclub of Torre Annunziata. Booking is not a requirement.
